INSTALLATION

Start the installation by executing the file <SETUP.CMD> from the CD
or the unzipped ACOS files. After the installation the program will
start automatically and a new symbol <acos93_E> will be creataed on
your desktop.

For beginners we urgently recommend to follow the
instructions of the training sample in the Help menu.

IMPORTANT NOTES

More than one program version on your computer:
Each program version will be installed separately from each other
on your computer.
In case of multiple installation of the same version, the registry
of the last installation is valid.

Network installation:
For automatical Installation <Setup_for_network_installation.cmd>
is provided. For more information see 'installation_doku_E.pdf' on
your CD. Our web site www.acos.com gives further information at
'Acos-downloads' - 'Client-downloads'.

Changes in the data base:
Please see data base table DBAENDERUNGEN.
You can update your current data base with the SQL-script <acos_
update_???.sql> in the P1MULT folder. You find the accordingly
updated ISF files in PLSDAT\ISFNEU ready to be copied to
PLSDAT\ISF0 and PLSDAT\PLS0.

- Multiple row lists
  Auxiliary lines can separate the multiple row entries (e.g. call
  via the shortcut menu of the Select-All-Button).
  NOTE: Elder Barchart formats and ZP1 projects may not show row 
  border lines. In this case change the grid line switch and save 
  the modification anew.

- Calculation function
  Instead of the accounting rates the Maximum availability (X),
  the Base load (L) and - coming soon - Division by the max.
  availability (/) can be specified.
  In addition the Calculation routine <w/o res. value> allows
  a calculation without the resource value, e.g. a calculation
  with the Maximum availability only

- Resource calendar dialogue box
  Text revisions provide better understandig

- Shifting scheduled dates of a projekt to a new project start
  The prefab macro Offset.ba7 allows to shift scheduled dates
  with the same time lag from the previous project start to a
  new project start

- Own background colour for group resources and subresources
  The Format menu in the relevant views allows to specify their
  background colours

- REL.ship calendar 0
  The effect of the setting <Time lag based on successor calendar>
  in the Tools - Options - General options tab was modified in
  order to provide a more realistic model

- Faster program version
  A faster program version, especially designed for network
  applications with slow PrivPath access is now included in
  the standard delivery

- Alternative relationships
  The new ALT-REL allow the definition of several rel.ships
  of which the one with the minimum impact on the successor is
  decisive, or in other words: at least one of the ALT-REL must
  have been completed to start with the successor

- New installation procedure
  If you follow the default settings previous ACOS versions are not
  lost

- Downward compatibility
  In case of extended calendar tables (1/2694=-1 instead of 0)
  the direct backward compatibility of project data for previous
  program versions (9.2 down) is dropped. Use Converter command in
  the user defined Portfolio menu to save the current project data
  (as far as possible) in the previous ISN-format.

- Netzwork application
  In case of networks with slow PrivPath access we can provide a
  special DLL with buffering of the temporary files


- Extended time horizon for project based on time unit 'hour'
  It becomes no longer necessary to adjust the time horizon to the
  current project situation.

- Calculation function for projects based on time unit 'deci-hours'
  Resource requirements in the Activity dialog box are now understood
  as hourly values. That is why durations calculated via these require-
  ment values become longer - depending on the length of the standard
  day. In case of a 10 hour standard day the prolongation factor is 10.

- Zooming time scale
  Optimized representation in a pure year display

- Export in the ZSN format
  This new export function allows to cache project data w/o loosing
  focus on the current project name and source of the data

- Barchart
  The displayed time period can be determined by the position of the
  filtered activities (Time scale dialog box - Period tab)

- Activity update dialog box
  To freeze the Actual-total a checkbox is now available (instead of
  the double-click construction)

- Macro
  New macro commands RFR (refreshs the current view), HVW (hides the
  individual macro views to increase processing speed and avoid
  refresh) and SVW (shows the individual views again)

- File menu
  a) The new function <Program folder> shows the current paths and
     settles the program start by clicking file types
  b) The new reopen function opens a database project and applies

     accuracy can be reduced to full hours only
  b) Day-by-day reoprting allowed

- Relationship calendar 0
  Tools-options-General options allows also < Time lag bases on

  When dealing with large projects the calculation of main activity
  resources can be switched off in the calculation dialog in order
  to save calculation time

- Resource service time (in preparation)
  a) New switch in menu Tools-Options-General options for the
  derivation of the resource service time from the calendars
  of the resources (espcially important in case of shiftwork
  planning)
  b) The new datafield RESD (resource service time) extend the
  interfaces and database (PLDATE). Harmless to existing
  interface or database applications

- Deletion of all planned data
  When comparing projects the program asks whether the deletion
  of all planned data is wanted before executing the compare
  command.
  In addition this command is included in the Calculation menu
  and in the macro commands (OLN).

- User defined menu
  The file SOFU.MNU is extended to 25 menu items, each containing
  a submenu with 49 command rows, i.e. 25 x 49 = 725 commands.
  In addition: A second user defined menu can be established by a
  file named SOFU2.MNU in the home directory PLSDAT, which follows
  the same rules as SOFU.MNU.

- Code
  The "#" character is now allowed in the code. The "~" character
  is now illicit

- Column content "Resource total"
  Modification of the calculation routine

- Relationship list
  A list box allows the resource allocation

- Activity filter
  New filter condition for the code field: "= place independent"
  searches for the specified string within the total code,
  independent of its position

- Combination view
  Default view when opening/creating a project is now the
  combination view. Change this default via menu Tools -
  Options - General options tab

- Time scala
  In case of labelling a time scale with serial numbers
  the point of origin for start and/or finish of the counting
  can be specified (offset fields).

  Utilization of the free floats of the external interface activities
  (27/167=2) instead of the previous fixation on earliest position
  (27/167=0) or the utilization of their total floats (27/167=1)

- Day-by-day update reports
  1) The activity start can be shifted before the first report date
     (28/171=1 instead of 0)
  2) Change of the default setting in the Activity update dialog
     box to a frozen Actual total indicated by the exclamation mark
     in the header (28/96=0 instead of 2). A double click resets the
     frozen status.

- Main activity calculation
  A main activity calculation is now performed only if the main
  activity calculation is activated in the Time Analysis dialog box
  (28/166=-1 instead of 0). Exeption duration of the pool project MA
  in the pool projekt.

- Comments
  1) Comment processing in the list now analogue activity processing
  2) Comments linked to an activity can be processed with the help
     of a mouse click

- Colour list boxes
  The list boxes for colour selection are enlarged and labelled with
  identification numbers

- Resources
  Planned data are added to the resource data set

- Hammmock activities
  A hammock created by conversion of a normal activity can be linked
  with the mouse key to its start and finish activity

- Empty calendar tables
  To faciliate the input of longer non working periods empty working
  tables are now allowed (27/191=-1 instead of 0)

- Performance
  Performannce generally revised.
  Database and ASCII (ISF): In addition columns with the node ID
  added to the tables to improve reading. Note: old formats can be
  processed w/o restrictions

- Database + ASCII
  Read in data: The duration of 100% completed activities is now
  derived from the earliest start und earliest finish. In case of
  completion < 100% the earliest finish is derived from earliest
  start and duration

- Time now date
  Database and ISN: In case of day-by-day reporting the decisive
  time now date is derived from the individual reports when
  reading the data

- Database - Event table
  Alle modifications are recorded and saved into the database
  (27/165=1 instead of 0)

- Database ow with MD5# encryption

- Database memo and database links
  After saving/opening a project into/from a database the node
  and project description dialog boxes allow direct memo input
  into the database. The button for document links is in
  preparation

  The Open project dialog box offers filter options to limit

  dialog boxes (memo tab, resource tab, etc.) can be specified

  The Combination view can be specified in the New project dialog
  box and the Tools - Options - General options tab

- Page Setup
  A new symbol in the Tool bar allows quick page setup

- Resource graph
  The base line of a curve can be a constant

- Structure formation
  The structure formation "MA-levels" in the Filter dialog allows
  the specification <according MA-WBS> which applies the  * levels
  exclusively to main activities and all activities are included
  in the selection. Unclassifiesd activities, which don't match the
  specified MA structure are depicted in the upper part of the Barchart
  and at the end of the WBS diagram as untied nodes.

- Projects based on project time unit 1/10 hours
  Due to the changes concerning shift planning (see below) pay
  attention to the  following notes When processing old 1/10
  hours projets with the new version:
  Resource requirements with the previous distribution type 'Rate'
  and maximum avalabilities are converted into hourly rates by
  multiplying factor 10. This allows to maintain the specified
  requirement values with the distribution type 'Sum' and the
  accounting rates.

- Shift planning
  Projects based on time unit 1/10 hours general revised to meet
  the requirements of shift planning
  a) In addition now hourly rates instead of 1/10 hour
     rates. Sum distribution, accounting rates and max. availabilities
     adjusted (now (27/195=-2 instead of 0).
  b) Data merge of projects based on time unit = day
  c) Duration input and presentation in various formats (see glossary)
  d) Filter adjusted to 1/10 hours
  e) Network diagram: Time axis positioning revised

- Activity and Resource Matrix
  Allow to show interval values (sum), mean values and max values w/o
  specification of a reference time unit (now 19/440=7 instead of 3)

- Relationship calendar 0
  According to the setting in Tools-Options-General options the
  time lag is specified as before in pure operation time units, or
  the time lag follows the calendar of the predecessor or successor
  (depending on the REL type)

- Relationship list
  Deleting rows with the DEL key deletes the relationships

  The tables have now their own F1-Help

- WBS and Network diagram
  allows the depiction of more nodes

   Changing the distribution type of the resource requirement in the
   actual situation does not influence the total resourc requirement of
   the planned situation

- Relationship default
   A changed default will now be applied to all projects of the user.
   In case of multiple program sessions opened by the user wins the
   default of the last closed session.

- Calendar description
   Resource calendar: The Calendar dialog box allows a a calendar
                      description
   Activity calendar: Press the <Tables> button in the Activity calendar
                      dialog box and enter a text for the first working
                      period. This description appears in the
                      calendar dialog box behind the calendar number.

- Path filter
   New switch "critcal": The activated switch searches for a path
   with REL float 0

- Critical path
   To meet practical requirements in case of multiple calendar calculation
   the definition of the Critical Path was changed. Instead of the
   condition "Rel float = 0" the new definition is "longest chain of
   critical actvities".
   To locate the path with the condition Rel float = 0, please employ
   the Path filter and activate the new switch "critical"

- Data Import / Export
   a) DBF-Export - changed default
      The default is now the new calendar format
   b) Rel.ship categories
      The import/export dialog does not differentiate anymore between
      min/max/cap rel.ships. Exclude individual categories via
      relationship filter.

- Projects based on time unit 1/10 hours
   a) Revised Levelling calculation
   b) The duration input can now be specified by "d" for days and "h"
      for hours, e.g. 12d3.5h for the duration 12 days and 3.5 hours
   c) The start of successor with a Rel.ship FS=0 is now not earlier
      than the predecessor, the duration of which is 0. This may result
      in case of a multiple calendar calculation in minor deviations
      from previous calculations.

- Network installation
   Please see 'installation_89_doku_E.pdf' on your CD

- Barchart
  Both bar colour and border can be used for emphasizing (over)critical
  activities

- Aggregated Barchart
  Now up to 1000 activities allowed in one row

- Resource barchart
   a) Aggregated Resource barchart

      Now available. In order to reduce the number of lines each link
      is only shown once

- Resource graph
   The curve description on the left side of the diagram shows
   now the displayed min/max/mean values of the curve instead of the

   a) In order to harmonize the Emphasize critical/overcritical colour
      representation, only the outer bounding line will get the
      (over)critical colour if <Border> is set <double>. Otherwise the
      (over)critical colour dominates the total box frame.
   b) The colour according "Font allocation" can now be applied (via
      "Symbol/border/colour") to the text in the boxes

a) Data base / Interfaces
   To allow more than 99 activity calendar allocations, the column RES_CAL of the file
   QCNV0O.ISF is now four digits long (instead of 3 before). In addition the
   new one-digit column SUP_RES (a flag for calculated group resources) was
   added at the end of this file.
   These modifications are included in the attached new Access data base
   (PLSDAT_O-table). In order to protect your data in the present data base
   you can either update your data base with the attached SQL-script
   <acos_update_access.sql> or make these two alterations manually.
   To preserve your current environment we added the old QCNV0O.ISF file
   as QCNV0O_88.ISF. If you want to continue with the old data base or the old
   interfaces you have to rename this file in the ...../PLSDAT/ISF0 directory.


b) List
   - New list type 'Resource allocation list' available in the View menu-Lists
   - Selected columns can be shifted with the help of the depressed
     left mouse key
   - Denomination of some column contents: Expression <Tag> is used now instead of
     <Mark> (e.g. <Tag start activity)> instead of <Mark start activity>)
   - New column content <Main activity - Attribute> allows to depict
     main activity data in activity rows
   - Copying a total column does not replace anymore the topic of the
     target column
   - Column content <Formula>: procedure simplified
   - Double clicking the split line in the column title optimizes the
     column width
   - Right aligned columns are now edited right aligned

c) Resource Calculation
   - Operating times of ressources are now caclulated even in case of no load
     allocation (otherwise set 28/157=0)
   - The switch <Cumulate availabilities> includes now the calculation of the
     accounting rates of group resources (old status can be set by 28/155=0)

d) Relationship Window
   Revised procedure when changing the rel.ship category

e) Insert object
   - Vertical gaps > 100 cm are now allowed
   - Scrolling of the gaps now possible

f) Network Diagram
   The rel.ships can be now processed with the mouse independent of the
   box size

g) Resource Graph
   Now selection of the stroke width also in case of dashed lines

h) Filter
   New filter option for activities with or w/o any resource load

   Revised representation with new denominations

   The interface files for DBF import/Export have been adjusted to projects

   directory ISFOLD (found on your CD) into the subdirectory .../PLSDAT/ISF0
   on your computer.


b) Extended function <Calculate duration> in the Calculation menu
   Rate allocation of resources can be included by formula:
   new duration = old duration x rate / max. availability

c) New macro command DCA for <Calculate duration>


d) New activity filter option
   for activities having resource allocation type 'rate' or distribution
   function

e) Resource calendar
   The base load specified in the Resource information dialog box reduces
   the displayed <Capacity> value in the Resource calendar

   No resource code input in the field of the 2nd resource and condition
   "#0" selects all activities with a resource requirement unequal 0

6) Status bar
   The status bar shows now also the Filter sign after executing the
   "Select node" or the "Hide bar" command

7) Calender of the resource - default in the Resource list
   Resource input in the Resource list: The default is now Activity
   calendar (-1) instead of Resource calendar (1)

8) Locking of project
   In case of path/file names longer than 198 chars locking is not
   possible (message)

9) Calculation menu
   The new Calculate duration function derives activity durations from

   function in version 8.7 and export with the help of "Select data" only
   "Resource calendar" and "Resources - daily values". After opening the
   ISN file in version 8.6 employ the DBF Import function and vice versa
   import "Resource calendar" and "Resources - daily values".

4) Resource calendar
   Now 40 periods per calendar are available and each calendar can get
   it's own description. Resources with this calendar are displayed
   in the resouce calendar dialog box.

5) Revised tool bar with additional icons
   The sequence of the icons is following the usual sequence of data
   processing.

6) Hammock list
   This new list allows a Start-Start (SS) or Finish-Start (FS) rel.ship
   with the predecessor and a Finish-Finish (FF) or Start-Finish (SF)
   rel.ship with the successor.

7) Averaged completion of activities
   This new %-completion is derived from all completion values (time
   related and resource related) and shows the averaged value. This
   completion type is introduced to locate activities with reported
   resource values only.
   "Completion averaged" can be specified in the column format dialog.

8) Highlight reported activities
   Activities with any %-completion are highlighted in the list by
   strokes. Switch this highlight option in Tools menu - Options -
   General options tab.

9) Activity filter
   In addition to the time related % completion two new filter criteria are
   available

   Reported activities:
   Locates only nodes with a resource or time completion 0 < % < 100.

   Completed acitivities:
   Locates only nodes with a resource and time completion = 100%.
   Resources with completion = 0% are ignored to allow to specify
   non update relevant resources.
   To include these resources, please activate both checkboxes,
   <reported> and <completed>!

10)Recent file
   The File menu shows now the last 10 project files opened or saved.

     Use the Activity matrix in the update mode to report

     The resource allocation is now separated from the node
   files (activities, main activities, etc.). In case of ASCII
   format the resource allocation file has the extension *.DOE,

   the resource profile calculated by a resource restricted
   calculation (Resource scheduling), and the *.DOY (*_OY.DBF)
   files created by the day by day reporting of the resources

   of each activity is recorded for every day.

4) Modification: Formatting the printout
     Up to nine areas for description (legend areas around the
   diagram) are now available. The length of the text fields
   is unlimited.
   Zoom available for inserted objects.
     This modification causes that the legends of formats
   created with version 8.0 or 8.1 have to be revised.

5) NEW: Project matrix
     This new view shows the consumption of the specified
   resources within a period of time for each activity,
   summarized in horizontal and vertical direction.

6) New filter possibilities
     The Activity filter allows to filter activities with
   overloaded resources or with not replaced wildcard
   resources (after Resource Scheduling). In addition nodes
   with individual formattings can be filtered.
     The Resource filter allows to filter employed or not
